A Case of Isolation f Candida Lusitaniae in Lymphosarcoma Cell Leukemia Patient
H. K. Kim
Y. J. Cho/I. S. Kim
Abstract
Lymphosarcoma cell leukemia, in a broad sense, refers to leukemic manifestation of malignant lymphoma. Characteristically, circulating abnormal lymphoid cells which have large nuclei, one or more distinct nucleoli, often clefted nuclei and homogeneous chromatin pattern are hallmark of this entity. Candida lusitaniae, originally isolated from the gastrointestinal tracts of warm- blooded animals has been shown to cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. It should be noted that the innate resistance of this yeast to amphotericin B is commonly observed and resistance also can develop during antifungal therapy. This was a case of second primary adenocarcinoma of colon in lymphosarcoma cell leukemia patient and later Candida lusitaniae was isolated from blood culture in the patient who died of sepsis during chemotherapy.
